Impacts of the sexual revolution

” It is interesting to note that the “sexual revolution” was sometimes portrayed as a communal utopia, whereas in fact it was simply another stage in the historical rise of individualism. As the lovely word “household” suggests, the couple and the family would be the last bastion of primitive communism in liberal society. The sexual revolution was to destroy these intermediary communities, the last to separate the individual from the market. The destruction continues to this day.”       –Michel Houellebecq-

The world is over flowing now with right demands, it has turned into a wide square where the residents of it became protestants asking for their rights, each asking for the right that he/she lacks, and demanding to practice that right. That global revolution is affecting everyone on this earth due to globalization, but a certain problem starts to rise, or what politicians call the follow-revolution acts, when the rights demanded in a certain region doesn’t fit the rest of the world. The revolution we are talking about here is the sexual revolution; it started in the 1960s in America and western Europe, although many say that it is the second one, as the first happened in the 1920s after World War I, but I think that 1960s fits well for the term, because during the 1960s all the follow revolution acts and movements started to appear. Feminism, homosexuality, pornography, public nudity and freedom of abortion are all considered acts that followed the sexual revolution, along with movements like counterculture, women’s and gay rights movements that all followed the sexual revolution and are considered also a part of it. The secret doesn’t lay in the rights but in the impacts of practicing them, so what are the effects of the sexual revolution and how did it change the world? That is what I am going to discuss.

The sexual revolution wasn’t just about the freedom of having an intercourse with a counterpart but it extended to include every aspect of life, and as much as many people may regard it as an act of liberation and that it made the world a better place, some others, including me, see that the disadvantages and the side effects had damaged many valuable things and beliefs of the world, that it even played in the normal cycle of life creating a great sense of imbalance in the way of living. For example, the right of public nudity opened the door for pornography and adult movie industry in the late 1960s throughout the 1970s up till now, for example the Blue Movie in 1969 that was the first movie displaying erotic scenes that would have never been published before that. And then this industry started nourishing and growing that it has now actors and actresses, and is taken seriously by critics, and it also has awards like “AVN Awards”, which is considered the “Oscars” for pornographic movies. But what in it comes to the impacts of the right of public nudity or publishing adult movies, many people around the world are suffering from porn addiction that can destroy their lives as it appeared in the movie “cyber seduction: his secret life “, and such widespread movies that can be found in minutes created a crisis in the regions of the world that doesn’t have the liberty of practicing the “sex without marriage right” such as the middle east, therefore; marriage rates started decreasing and the unmarried girls rates started going up, because the men find what they can have in a marriage based relationship in the media easily.

The other movement that appeared and is actually getting widely acclaimed nowadays is the gay rights movement; that 2015 is labeled as the “gay rights year” with the rainbow flags and clothes and many awards dedicating their night shows to the movement like the MTV Music Awards. With all due respect to homosexual people and their life style, the huge amount of expenses and money that is spent to support the gay rights weren’t that necessary in the year 2015, when many other crises and issues were rising and reaching a peak like the displacement crisis in Syria and the unending famine in South Africa. These issues deserved the same and more amount of attention from the world, because the gay people were already practicing their rights freely, especially after President Obama became the President of the United States in 2008, and he is known to be a huge supporter of rights including the gay people rights. The other thing about homosexuality is that it is strictly forbidden in most of the sacred religions, and is regarded as an abomination of nature, because it defies the normal cycle of life which is reproduction and continuing to build the earth; and that is considered the main purpose of creating life and human beings in the first place. Although homosexuals say that it is their nature and that they can’t change it, people argue saying that everyone is created with an inner demon and a certain point of conflict and that they must resist in order to preserve the order of nature, just like how a person persists anger, lying and the desire to go all bad and destroy everything. But despite what many anti-homosexuality supporters say, it is happening now and increasing in many ways like; it is appearing now in countries that didn’t support it before like India and some regions in the Far East, also; it is becoming a choice rather than a human nature that one can persist. For instance, if a girl doesn’t feel comfy in a relation with a guy, she can start dating girls without the desire to actually do so. As I previously mentioned, with all due respect, it is not about the right, it is about the impact. And homosexuality is becoming a culture that imposes itself above traditions, beliefs and religions, and no right should have that immense amount of power over the entire human race. So, refusing the homosexuality in a certain society in a respectful manner is not an act of racism, but it is a right. Because rights are not just about saying yes and agreeing, it is sometimes about saying no and defying.

The sexual revolution is believed to have coincided with feminism and Women rights’ movement, and that maybe true when it comes to time, as they both started in about the same time and started gaining attention and nourishing at the same time too. But in my point of view, they do not support each other; maybe from the side that they are both rights and that a woman can have a free sexual life yes, but when it comes to how the sexual revolution made women more empowered, I don’t think so. I actually believe that they contradict; Feminism is all about empowering women and respecting them, before the women rights movement, women were treated badly and as second best to men, but after it they started gaining more power and are able to work freely, have the right to vote and going through elections; all these things made them more respected and regarded as first best, equal to men. But isn’t all of it about respecting a woman’s mind, and seeing her as more than just a body? The sexual revolution actually opened the door to men to regard girls as just bodies without considering their minds, because it paved the way for opened relations and the term “friends with benefits” which is all about body relations. Thus; girls started going for wearing less clothes and less thinking, most of the girls’ worlds now revolve around beauty and plastic surgeries to look better and more presentable in men’s eyes, while the girls with more clothes and more brains on them are labeled as nerds and old fashioned. And these entire thoughts act against feminism and side with the sexual revolution which make them stand on two facing lines not on one extended line. And when it comes to its impacts, there is an issue of sexual harassment starting to take a rise around the world now and both sexes are blaming the other one; men say that girls are “showing too much”, and girls say that it is their right to wear what they see fit. The second most important impact is;  girls and women now refuse to have kids and start families till a late age like late 30s and mid 40s,  and with the help of birth control pills and freedom of abortion, it is threatening the growth rate in many countries around the world like western Europe, while the Far East and Middle East where the sexual revolution is not heavily highlighted; the population is increasing really fast, which make them win when it comes to continuing the life cycle and preserve the place of their race on earth for a longer time.

In conclusion, Rights is a very delicate topic, and people should be aware when demanding for their right and while practicing it. The world is a place that you share with billions of people and even if you would never meet every single one of them, you should be aware that due to globalization that whatever rights you practice or movement you support or even a case you adopt will have its impacts on the entire world and effect millions of lives, so choose your side wisely and always respect the other parties. The world is big enough for everyone.

P.S: This article is written with all the respect to every sex, race, sexual taste, color, people, policy and region in this world. It is a mere discussion and an expression of personal opinion and point of view. Thanks…

well educated origins !!

manal

“We are having a baby!!” is actually one of the most loveable and cheering sentences on earth, not just because it indicates the existence of a new life and a new family, but also because it the extension of two people in this life. A mother is usually happy because of the life growing inside her, the baby resting on her heart and the very first kicks that send her to cloud nine, and a father is usually happy because his legacy is going to live through another person carrying his name and his blood line would continue throughout another generation. All the mentioned above are great things, but the thing that makes the parents’ heart flutter to the most is seeing themselves in their kid as he is growing up starting from his features to his habits and likes. But what would happen if you take away a crucial part that helps in building the person’s personality, such as environment and nationality?, We are witnessing now a rising phenomenon of people from the middle east going to give birth in Europe or the US, in order for the newborns to have the nationality, that surely has both advantages and disadvantages, and that is what we are going to discuss from the perspective of what if a major thing happens in both countries; which side will these kids pick?

Being from a country and carrying the nationality of another carries a lot of privileges, as you can live in two places, study in two places and carry two passports, so it is all about choices, but what if the choice is so hard. The Middle East is a region that is in a constant threat of a war for many different reasons, and the newborn babies today are actually the men and women of the future. So, what if a Middle Eastern country went to war with one of the western countries that they carry the nationality of? Which side will they pick and why? In order to explain the theory, we are going to use an example of two countries and different scenarios. For instance, An Egyptian guy carrying the US nationality; It is believed that the Egyptians have a special connection to their land, some say because of the many wars that Egypt had throughout history so basically, its people are bound to it by blood, and others say because of the little things and the magic that this country holds within. On the other hand, the US is known as the country of freedom and democracy, and that the American people are among the most respected throughout the world. The privileges that an American passport carrier has are many, such as good education, high quality health insurance, good treatment in airports and while travelling, also luxury and good life standards; the things that differ from what in Egypt from poor education to low health insurance, bad treatment, as Arab are holding the print of terrorism, and not so well life standards. But that isn’t what life is really about right?

Historians believe that the reason the Middle Eastern countries are” keeping it together” is due to the unified strong social fabric; represented in the unity of families and loyalty of friends. While in the US these things don’t carry such importance and are usually neglected and observed as the ties that hinders one’s progress. All these reasons would put the previously mentioned guy or girl in a bad position of which side they are willing to choose. This article is not going to provide an answer for that, it is actually a question for each one out there, and what do you think they shall choose? Shall it be the roots, family, land and friends, or better future, education health and insured future for their kids? As a human being, what carries most importance to you? The past or the future, and can the present be a land of compromise and peace constituted by those who shall refuse to choose in a state of war, and rather maintain peace between the two spheres of the globe?

In conclusion; Environment and origins do not change people, it just influences them and help in making them better people, so if it would hold you back, you don’t just let go, you fight. Fight to maintain the past and help in building a better future. Aspire for the best and dream of the better. Transfer the good things from a place to another, help in changing times and do not give up the privileges of the west and the beauty of the east. Give the world the peace it needs by working hard and giving the best image you can, no matter where you are from. In my opinion, only people standing on borders can help erase the barriers between a country and another.

Scribbles of life

images              Education is not only in schools, ignorance is not about reading and writing.  In fact, the world is the only school that can make good or bad persons. It is all about how people receive their education in this big school that called ” the world”.
Any living creature is a learner in this school. However; every person has his own pencil with which he/she writes down every experience, lesson, and dream. This pencil carries the identity of its user and the paper carries his/her life, wile the eraser carres the burden of mistakes.
“But it’s like any other pencil I’ve  ever seen!”
“That depends on how you look at things…” Paulo Coelho introduced this idea long time ago. Coelho wrote “the story of the pencil” by which he gives new meanings for life.
The pencil can be seen as if it is just a piece of wood with graphite in the inside and can be seen as the dream achievers.
This pencil can be broken but it can not lose its value. Being broken will never underestimate its real value. It is like anyone in this world (this school) that can pass through difficult experiences  and can make mistakes, but it can not lose its value whatever happens. This pencil can write poems and also can write nonsense. It is all about how it is guided.
In the world, every person has  his own identity and value that can never be lost.
May be one can be broken but one can not be nothing. The real value of the pencil is in the inside; its values lay in the graphite. Typically like anyone whose value is in his identity not in his actions, achievements and success.  Being created and exited in this school means that you have a priceless value. This value that exists before even your actions, achievements, and success exist.  Everyone is totally unique person that can never be evaluated by his/her appearance. In the world, that represents the biggest school, the pencil is a crucial element in learning.
Simply because pencil also writes down his owner’s life story. So be careful how your life is going. It is not that easy to erase your mistakes with an eraser and keep on moving and writing. Actually, it takes time and effort to erase a mistake from your paper ( your life). The beat thing about a pencil is that whatever it writes, it can be erased. The mistakes in our lives are not the end of our life, it is a beginning of new lesson. Here comes one’s responsibility to handle his/her mistakes; One can choose to keep on moving and learning and the other can choose to threw away the paper and the pencil.
This world depends on decisions and how decision makers were once children.
To become a decision maker means to become flexible with your mistakes and past.

The eraser may seem the most forgotten tool in a student’s pencil case, although it is the thing that is used the most. The eraser erases typos, and mistakes. And Just like how the eraser comes attached to the end of a pencil, it is also attached to human’s brain. What human never makes mistakes? No one, we all do, we all fall in the intriguing manipulative paths of the devil, but an eraser teaches us that there is always a way back, that there is always a chance for redemption. The eraser is that U-turn that appears in the road to tell you that you can go back and start from the beginning, that you have another chance and take care not to waste it. Mistakes and Redemption are like 2 beacons; each alluring a specific side in our souls. Sometimes, we go in this way and sometimes we go in that, but it’s not bad nor is it wrong. Making mistakes is what makes us humans and seeking redemption and forgiveness is what makes us alive. They both continue each other, just like a pencil and an eraser; if there wasn’t pencil writing and making mistakes, the eraser would be useless, and if there wasn’t an eraser, the pencil would then become afraid to write anything, which makes it also useless. If a certain person knew that he/she can’t erase their mistakes, they would never try anything which will make them living dead, and if God didn’t give the human a way back, he would have created a flawless humanity. It is totally approved and accepted for us to make mistakes and try to use our erasers to wipe them off; it is actually recommended to go on with life and don’t trap ourselves in the past and never let it define the present and the future. On the other hand, an eraser doesn’t teach us only that, but it also teaches us that whenever it is used, it gets dirtier and smaller. Our mistakes are just like that, they define us, and we should know that we have a few shots in erasing them before our erasers end. So, just as much as we need to use the flexible erasers to wipe off our mistakes, we should bear in mind that it won’t last forever and that we should take care and know that every mistake counts, because it doesn’t just hold us back but it also takes much of our effort and lives to forget and erase.

On Balance, a pencil is just like a human being, it writes down his  story; his life, his passions, achievements, success and mistakes. And an eraser is just like the human passion and instinct that seeks forgiveness and erasing the mistakes he has ever made. So, be careful and picky when you write your story , make mistakes, but erase wisely and learn from them, and remember that you only have few papers to fill out so write with wisely and lively. May everyone’s papers always be  colorful and full with life.

SHE!

Don’t fear, don’t panic… She is not alone; she is filled with people; their thoughts, their hopes and what she hears from them every day.

She is not in pain, those dark strings do get tight and hurt but they make her stronger, they make her a fighter, they make her who she is.

She is not filled with darkness; she is filled with light, an enlightened vessel filled with dark thoughts; a white paper filled with dark lines. That is what makes her readable and useful.

She is not crying; she is just looking back to experiences, memories and unforgotten words, whether they were happy or bad, they still painted her life, and even if it is with dark colors, she remains a beautiful drawing.

She is not one person; she is filled with stories; stories of all the girls, all of her age, her generation, her family, her friends and herself.

A girl is a story that unfolds itself every day, she is strong and independent. If you want to be a part of her life, be; but don’t have the urge to always take care of her… she is completely capable of that. So, take care before you hurt her… She is in no need for more pain.

 ” Dirty , ugly , weak, coward , lonely,  needy , bad, stupid, foolish , unwanted , disqualified…”
She is done with these labels. No more believing in what others say about her and her life .
She is welcoming anyone to come into her life and She is ready to tell her story; how She insisted on living when life was unbearable, and how needy She is for  unconditional love that could accept me for who She is, NOT for  physical appearance.
Stop judging her. This girl has been used for several years . Yes She has been used not loved; Men used her body, her friends used her time for their own needs and left her alone when she needed them, and finally her parents left her chained.
It is her time to live, to love and to be free.
Its her time to be a human.
Its  her time to enjoy her rights and learn from her mistakes.
Its her time and your time to get up and dance despite her and your past.
